Brisbane

Brisbane is one of the biggest cities in Australia and assumes the role of the capital city of the state of Queensland. With a population of over 2.2 million people, the city is the largest city in Queensland while is also the third largest city in the entire Australia.

Originally situated in and around the Brisbane River, the city later expanded as local administrations continued to develop the city. The city was established in 1824 and is named after the river itself. The city has a very strong historical background and is famous for the role it played during the Second World War. The city was the hub of activities of the Allied front and was used as the South West Pacific Headquarters too.

Brisbane is famous for the major sporting events that it has played host to. These events include the Common Wealth Games of 1982, 1988 World Expo and the 2001 Goodwill Games. The city has also seen an influx of immigrants in the past few years especially because of its high rank in the list of most livable cities in the world.

Interestingly, Brisbane does not only make the list of most livable cities, the city also makes it to the list of the favorite cities of tourists in Australia. With the city being the third most popular tourist location for international tourists, the city has a fledgling tourism industry. South Bank Parklands, Portside Wharf and Brisbane Botanic Gardens are few of the most popular tourist attractions present in the city.
