Hamburg

Being the second largest city in Germany, most visitors are surprised by the natural beauty of Hamburg in spite of the city being famous for its industrial past.  This is heightened by beautifully landscaped gardens, tree lined canals and a protected country side that makes it vastly different to most industrial cities in the world. This is a city that was considered historically important long before Hitler raised his ugly head to create havoc.  But it says much about its strength considering the Viking attacks, Polish occupation and raids against the Nazis to have withstood everything to emerge as a city to be reckoned with.

Like in most parts of Germany, Hamburg too has its share of churches which are legendry in their beauty and architecture.  Even at present, this is one city that has resisted the building of sky scrapers, with very tall church steeples taking their place to add their own elegance and grandeur to the skyline. Make a note of some of these churches including St. Nicholas, St. Peter’s, and St. James’ among others which once visited will live in your memory for ever.

To add to the stately appearance of Hamburg are the huge network of canals that criss cross the city making the City of Venice pale into comparison. What makes these waterways even more interesting are the two thousand three hundred bridges that have been built across them making Hamburg a city with the most number of bridges in the world.

But make no mistake, this marvelous city is not only for nature lovers and sight seeing enthusiasts because Hamburg has a lot to offer in the way of entertainment as well. It not only caters to history lovers with its dozens of interesting museums;  various theatres, clubs and a variety of accommodation options makes it also the perfect place for anyone to take a vacation. Music lovers would no doubt be aware that the Hamburg State Opera has the proud distinction  of holding a number of concerts every year and has been able to put on show some of the most acclaimed performances in the world.

Visitors to this historic city will never have enough of it not only because of its beauty, but also because of its very interesting combination of the past and the present where a melting pot of history, culture and entertainment makes it the ideal place for anyone  with discerning tastes.
