Mumbai is one of the most popular cities in the world. It was earlier known as Bombay before the name was changed to Mumbai. The city is the capital of the state of Maharashtra in India and is also the most populous city in the country. Not only is the city the most populous in India, with a population that crosses 20.5 million, the city is also the fourth most populous city in the entire world.
Founded in 1507, Mumbai rose as a strong city after East India Company shifted its headquarters to the city. The city has gone through a number of changes over the years and even after India was formed, the city’s overall boundaries were changed because of rioting. Overall, the city is present at the western coast of the country and has two ports which give the city the special status it has.
The city is well known for its wealth with the city in the list of the wealthiest cities in the world. Mumbai contributes a lot to the Indian economy overall with almost leading industries present in the city. The city’s railroad system has been one of the most talked about aspects as overcrowded trains have caused several accidents over the years.
The city’s overall sky view is impressive while it also has a few locations of scenic beauty. From Cuffe Parade to the famous Rajabai Clock Tower and from Nariman Point to the Gateway of India, all these locations make Mumbai a great tourist location as well.
