Nairobi is the largest urban area in Kenya and is also the capital city of the African country. The city takes its name from the Nairobi River with the word actually being derived from a Maasai phrase ‘Enkare Nyrobi’ which means cold water. The city is one of the most populated in Africa and is the most populous city in Kenya with a population of over 3 million people.

The city has always been the centre of political and administrative activity ever since Kenya got independence in 1963. The city was founded in 1899 by the British as a linking route from Mombasa to Uganda.

The city has always been important both politically and economically with the city being the hub of industrial activities in the region. It is home to the headquarters of important organizations like United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) as well as the United Nations Office in Nairobi. The city is blessed with some of the most breath taking locations which makes it a great tourist spot in Africa.
